MEET DR. CHRISTY WEER, DEAN & PROFESSOR OF MANAGEMENT

The mission of the Perdue School of Business is to empower students in the mid-Atlantic region to become successful and ethical business decision-makers and leaders in a global, dynamic, and increasingly digital environment.

The focal elements of our mission include:

• We offer the degrees and other academic training needed for our students to excel in the global business community. Our faculty teach courses that bridge theory and practice. We embed critical thinking and experiential learning into our courses so that our students can perform effectively and with flexibility in the many jobs they will hold in their lifetime.
  
  
• In preparing our students to become leaders, we focus on a balance of emotional intelligence, leadership and subject matter competency. We believe in delivering a high value, student-centered education in order to help our students achieve their full potential. We focus on not only educating our students but on mentoring them, and on helping them in their career preparation as well.
  
  
• Our graduates are prepared to become critical thinkers who value agility, flexibility, and fairness. Their education at the Perdue School of Business prepares them to communicate well; collaborate effectively; be innovative; be comfortable in using current and emerging technologies; be emotionally intelligent leaders who are culturally aware with an international perspective, and be of valuable service to their communities. Throughout their education at the Perdue School of Business, our students are given the tools to navigate expected as well as unexpected economic or natural disruptions, whether they are sectoral, economy-wide, or global.
  
  
• The success of our students is already evidenced by the accomplishments of our alumni in a variety of careers including, but not limited to, accounting (including forensic accounting), economics, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare, human resource management, information systems, international business, management consulting, marketing, and professional sales. Alumni work in for-profit organizations as well as NGOs and not-for-profit organizations.
  
  
• We know that students, faculty and staff are the center of all we do. We work with our university leadership to improve access and affordability for our students as well as improving our faculty development and retention efforts. We invest in Human Capital by committing resources for our faculty to be effective teachers and mentors, while also being mindful of the importance of professional development to ensure faculty status in the academic community. This includes support for global teaching opportunities and other activities that enhance the classroom and strengthen student mentoring. This Human Capital includes our adjunct faculty, who are an important foundation for our teaching excellence and financial stability.
  
  
• The Perdue School of Business is committed to being a positive change agent on- and off-campus. We advocate for social justice in our community, our classrooms, and our professional lives. • We model good business practices including the use of high-quality decision-making tools, engaging all of our faculty in decision-making, using critical thinking and conflict resolution skills to ensure full voice in decision making, and being open to risk and innovation. We do this to separate ourselves as a high-quality innovative School, with an engaged faculty, willing to embrace the digital revolution.
  
  
• To support our educational mission, our faculty engage in professional development activities that include intellectual contributions that have a significant impact in solving current as well as emerging problems within our communities. These solutions are innovative and widely disseminated to ensure engagement. To this end, we will continue to increase resources for supporting faculty in their teaching, their professional activities, their campus service activities, and in their community outreach activities.
  
  
• Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to seek mutually beneficial community engagement opportunities through our various outreach initiatives and entities such as the Applied Business Learning Experiences Program (ABLE), the Bienvenidos a Delmarva Initiative, the Business, Economic, and Community Outreach Network (BEACON), the Collegiate Entrepreneur’s Organization (CEO), the GraySHORE Initiative, the Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute (MASMI), the Ratcliffe Shore Hatchery Program, the Rommel Center for Entrepreneurship, the Small Business Development Center, and the Study Abroad Program. As part of these efforts, and to help bridge theory to practice while supporting student development, we invest in student competitions such our sales competitions, business case study competitions, and student entrepreneurship competitions.

6. Remember that the way to be happy is to think of what you

   what people should be doing for you.
7. Be part of something bigger than your own self. That
   something can be family, pursuit of knowledge, the
   environment, or whatever you choose.
8. Remember that hard work is satisfying and fulfilling.
9. Nurture the ability to laugh and have fun.
10. Have respect for those who have gone before; learn from
    their weaknesses; build on their strengths

Faculty at the Perdue School of Business expect every student in business classes to engage in conduct consistent with the professional and ethical conduct a business organization would expect of employees.

Faculty Committees

There is no better way to learn about international business than being there! Currently, the Perdue School offers regular winter term study abroad programs. The experience is 3.5-4 weeks in duration, beginning and ending with classes at SU. Two weeks of the program is spent abroad, receiving classroom instruction, visiting leading businesses engaged in international activities, meeting with ranking members of the business community as guest speakers and participating in cultural activities. International programs include:

• Argentina
• China
• France
• Germany
• Estonia

In addition to these programs, there are a wide variety of study abroad opportunities to fit every interest, budget and location in the world. The Office of the Global Programs Administrator has information on a multitude of programs and can you in the study abroad process from program selection to credit transfer to document assistance. The primary objective of the school is to provide each of its students with an academic environment that fosters the development of a broad intellectual foundation. This foundation is the basis for effective service in professional positions and enables students to assume higher levels of responsibility as they gain experience and demonstrate ability.

The faculty believe this objective is met by the development and maintenance of quality curricula, by effective teaching and by conscientious student advising.

Students must demonstrate competency in essential business knowledge and skills by achieving the school learning objectives.

Consistent with the University mission and the convictions of its faculty, the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business objectives reflect a dedication to students' maximum intellectual growth, active involvement in applied and practical research, and a commitment to community service.

The school is committed to stimulating the intellectual growth of its faculty and the broader academic and business community. The faculty actively pursue applied and practical research that expands their knowledge of business and economic activities as well as more theoretical research.

The Franklin P. Perdue Museum of Business and Entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity for visitors and students to study the core values and philosophies of Arthur, Frank and Jim Perdue within a framework of the business models Perdue Farms has followed over a century and three generations of family ownership.
