Research Interests

My research centers on the relationship between literature and the environment, interdisciplinary environmental humanities, environmental justice, the literature and language of climate change, anthropocene studies, global modernism, and the twentieth to twenty-first century novel. In my current book project, "Writing the Modern Farm," I argue that some modernist writers view agricultural spaces not as a vestige of a backward past, but rather as prime grounds for the development of distinctly rural forms of innovation and cosmopolitanism. In a second book project, tentatively titled "Climate Change as Chronic Crisis," I analyze contemporary anthropocene theory to make the case for a new vocabulary of emergency given the unfathomably long duration of anthropogenic climate change.
