15th Eastern Shore Senior Games Set Thursday-Saturday, May 1-3
SALISBURY, MD---Seniors from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia converge on Salisbury University for the 15th annual Eastern Shore Senior Games.
Events are Thursday-Saturday, May 1-3, at Maggs Physical Activities Center and the 成人抖阴athletic fields, and other locations throughout the community.
Competitions include aquatics, bowling, cycling, a fitness 5K walk/run, fitness assessments, pickleball, floor and foul basketball shooting, golf, table tennis, tennis, track and field, and team volleyball.
Athletes vie for gold, silver and bronze medals in age brackets based on five-year increments, beginning with ages 50-54 to 90+. Fitness assessments are offered at no cost, with no pre-registration required, to area residents 50 and over from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in Maggs Physical Activities Center Room 206.
An Athlete Recognition Social is 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 2, in the Perdue Hall Atrium to honor the participants that make the games possible and to allow them to socialize with one another. Hors d’oeuvers will be served.
According to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, 85 percent of seniors in the United States do not exercise as much as they should. Other seniors have made staying in shape a social affair, using events like the Senior Games to keep in touch with old friends and make new ones. In recent years, more than 400 have competed in the games.
