Dr. Kelly SmithSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Biological Sciences and Philosophy departments present the virtual seminar “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Social and Ethical Issues in Astrobiology but Didn’t Know Enough to Ask” at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 1.

NASA’s chief scientists predict evidence of alien life will be confirmed within the next 20 years, a scientific discovery that would raise a host of social and ethical questions which have yet to be explored carefully. Dr. Kelly Smith, chair of Philosophy and Religion at Clemson University and president of the Society for Social and Conceptual Issues in Astrobiology, discusses astrobiology and some of the perplexing puzzles it presents.

Smith has worked with NASA, the National Academies of Science and Engineering, and the European Union Astrobiology project, among others. His work has been published in a wide array of professional journals and featured on National Public Radio’s Science Friday, as well as CNN.
