Meashey earns Out to Innovate Scholarship

Jay Meashey, a senior urban and regional planning and political science major from Berlin, MD, recently earned the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals’ $3,000 Out to Innovate Undergraduate Scholarship.

“The Out to Innovate scholarship from NOGLSTP means so much to me,” he said. “It is a recognition of commitment to learning and to service for our community – which I like to think of as our family. My technical education in urban planning is informed by my experience as an out gay man. My personal background equips me to be a more nuanced, sensitive, and aware planner, and to be an ally to other communities that have experienced historical exclusion or marginalization in the area of planning.”

Pursuing his degree after several years in the workforce, Meashey plans to pursue a career in city planning.
