Environmental Colloquium Series at 成人抖阴This Fall
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Environmental Studies Colloquium series returns this fall with three engaging presentations 6 p.m. select Wednesdays throughout the semester.
Topics include:
- September 22, Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall – “Saving San Domingo: A Little Known Piece of Eastern Shore History Screening and Panel Discussion”: The makers of the film, Tom Horton, Dave Harp and Sandy Cannon-Brown, present their story of San Domingo, MD, founded in 1820 and possibly one of the oldest surviving Black communities in the U.S. Following the film, a panel discussion includes the filmmakers and members of one of San Domingo’s mainstay families.
- October 13, Conway Hall Room 153 – “The Old Home Is Not There: Reflections on Harriet Tubman’s Eastern Shore”: Published in June, A Guide to Harriet Tubman’s Eastern Shore: The Old Home Is Not There, explores the Dorchester County landscapes and environments known by Tubman and shared by Dorchester residents. The book also examines how those landscapes and environments have changed since her time. Its co-authors, Drs. Phillip Hesser and Charlie Ewers, discuss the book.
- November 10, Conway Hall Room 153 – “How Can I Help? Writing About Science and Nature for Young Readers”: Writing about science and the environment for young people has unique challenges, like putting events in historical context, explaining complex concepts and being honest about the threats to ecosystems. Author and 成人抖阴alumna Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan discusses how to combine information with inspiration.
Sponsored by the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts and the Environmental Studies Department, admission is free and the public is invited.
All attendees at Salisbury University events are required to wear a mask while in the audience, regardless of vaccination status. Attendees may be asked to leave an event for non-compliance.
