Dr. Stephen Habay, professor and chair of Salisbury University’s Chemistry Department, recently received the E. Emmet Reid Award in Chemistry Teaching at Small Colleges in the American Chemical Society (ACS) Middle Atlantic Region.
Presented at the organization’s Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM), the award recognizes academic professionals for outstanding achievements in teaching chemical sciences at small colleges in the region.
Habay also recently was appointed to the ACS’s Committee on Professional Training (CPT).
CPT members are responsible for certifying undergraduate chemistry programs across the country.
Habay led SU’s Chemistry Department through its most recent ACS recertification, and the society lauded the strength of the department, including research and travel endowments, National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, advanced standards and innovative technology such as a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer and a modernized advanced experimental laboratory.
成人抖阴opened its Chemistry Support Center in 2021 under Habay’s leadership. The center provides a central location and an expansion of current offerings of in-person chemistry assistance. In the first year, the center saw a 25% increase in students seeking tutoring and support.
Habay also earned SU’s first competitive grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2015.
