Atrium Gallery Showcases Works by Gary Brotman March 4-April 13
SALISBURY, MD---What is real? What is abstract? Artist and Salisbury University art faculty member Gary Brotman blurs the line.
University Galleries showcases his recent work in the exhibit “Gary Brotman: Paintings and Drawings, 2008-2011,” hanging March 4-April 13 in the Atrium Gallery of the Guerrieri University Center. A reception is 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Though executed in a meticulously detaled realistic style, the subject and composition of Brotman’s art is often abstract, with paintings that depict the play of light over the complex folds and intricate patterns of draped textiles.
Like many abstract artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Brotman uses his works to explore the nature of painting and the art-making process. His paintings and drawings have become increasingly improvisational and less referential.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. The gallery is closed during SU’s spring break, the week of March 19-27. Admission is free and the public is invited.
