Delmarva Farm Co-op Info Session Oct. 22

SALISBURY, MD--The first Delmarva Farm Cooperative Information Session is on Monday, October 22, from 6:45-9 p.m. in the Worcester Room of the Commons on the campus of Salisbury University.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring farmers together so they can begin working together to improve their profitability in agriculture. Agricultural Cooperatives are producer-run organizations that enable farmers to work together to achieve common goals that are difficult to achieve as individuals.

The co-op meeting is open to all farmers--small, part-time and limited-resource--who need a place to market their product;  or commercial farmers who are interested in direct marketing opportunities and other advantages that working together in a cooperative structure can bring.

Seating is limited and pre-registration is required by Wednesday, October 17. There is no fee to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Contact the Wicomico County Extension Office by phone at 410-749-6141 or e-mail at ss80@umail.umd.edu to pre-register or for additional information.

The co-op meeting is part of a team effort by the Maryland Small Business Development Center-Eastern Region at Salisbury University, University of Maryland Cooperative Extension, the Small Farm Technical Assistance and Outreach Program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State University. In addition to the co-op meeting, the group plans to repeat the Ag 101: Delmarva Small Farm Short Course in February on Mondays (4, 11 and 18) and offer an Ag Direct Marketing Short Course in March, on Mondays (4, 11 and 18).
