Experts Speak on Arabic Language and Calligraphy November 16

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Reem Bassiouney, assistant professor of Arabic language and linguistics at Georgetown University, and European language bibliographer Mark Muehlhaeusler speak about the art of Arabic language and calligraphy 7 p.m. Monday, November 16, in Caruthers Hall Auditorium.

Bassiouney taught Arabic language and linguistics for over 14 years at universities in the United States and Britain. She has published academic books and articles including Functions of Code-Switching in Egypt, Arabic Sociolinguistics and Arabic and the Media: Linguistic Analyses and Applications.

An Orientalist by training, Muehlhaeusler was formerly curator of the Near Eastern collections at the Cambridge University Library (England) and Middle East specialist in charge of Arabic manuscripts and rare books at the University of Utah.  His main interests are Arabic codicology (books) and papyrology (documents and literature), and he recently published a study on medieval Arabic block prints.
