1:25 p.m.
SALISBURY, MD---Portions of the Eastern Shore are currently under a hurricane watch as Hurricane Earl approaches the eastern seaboard.
A watch is the first alert issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) when severe storms are possible. Those affected are encouraged to remain alert for approaching storms, but may continue with their normal routine or other activities.
NWS is forecasting that Wicomico County will begin feeling the effects of the hurricane from mid- to late evening Thursday, September 2. The strongest impact is expected between 3 a.m. to early afternoon Friday, September 3. Approximately one inch of rain, with sustained winds from 25-30 miles per hour, are predicted. Effects are expected to taper off on Friday night.
Members of the 成人抖阴community may want to prepare with food, water and other safety supplies in the event this area is affected by the hurricane. They are also encouraged to make sure their vehicles have adequate gasoline.
If thinking about traveling over the holiday weekend, please consider weather and road conditions. Some areas may be more affected by the storm than others.
At SU, the Friday night crab feast scheduled for Devilbiss Mall from 5-7 p.m. has been postponed. Other cancellations are possible.
Salisbury University is working with the Maryland Emergency Management Administration and Wicomico County Emergency Services to monitor the storm closely. Please continue to check the 成人抖阴Web site and listen to local media for additional information.
