Islamic Calligraphy Demonstration with Visiting Artist Khalid Casado Nov. 2
SALISBURY, MD---Visiting artist Khalid Casado of Madrid introduces the art of Islamic calligraphy to Salisbury University during a demonstration 5:45 p.m. Thursday, November 2, in Fulton Hall Room 111.
Casado shares stories about his journey into Arabic calligraphy under the guidance of master calligraphers in Istanbul, where he was trained. He also teaches the proportions of Arabic letters and demonstrates how to measure them using nukhtas.
An experienced teacher, he has provided instruction at George Washington University and the Smithsonian Institution’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Casado’s talk and demonstration are followed by a workshop during which 10 成人抖阴students will practice Arabic calligraphy with a reed pen.
Sponsored by the History and Political Science departments, Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, and SU’s chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta national honor society in history, admission is free and the public is invited.
