Maryland Senate President Addresses Campus Oct. 2
SALISBURY, MD--The Honorable Mike Miller, president of the Maryland Senate, addresses the campus community at Salisbury University on Tuesday, October 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.
The University’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) sponsors Miller’s presentation. “One of the goals of PACE,” said co-director Dr. Harry Basehart, “is to bring on campus outstanding legislators who have worked tirelessly on behalf of the public good so that our students will be able to see real models of civic engagement.”
“The Senator’s talk, ‘Public Service and Its Role in Serving the Community,’ could not be more timely, given the horrible tragedy of these last weeks, ” said Dr. Fran Kane co-director of PACE. “To challenge our students to think about public service is surely the right message at just the right time.”
Miller has been a member of the Maryland General Assembly since 1971 and was elected Senate president in 1987. He has served on nearly every important legislative committee in Annapolis and has assumed leadership positions in a number of national legislative organizations. Heavily involved in the community, he has served on commissions ranging from utilities to the environment and has won awards from such diverse groups as the Sierra Club, the AFL-CIO, and various police and fire departments and was named Outstanding Legislator by the Maryland Municipal League.
The lecture is free and the public is cordially invited. For more information contact the 成人抖阴Office of Public Relations at 410-543-6030.
