Nursing Faculty Present Research Before National Congress

SALISBURY, MD—--Drs. Lisa Seldomridge and Cathy Walsh, members of the nursing faculty of the Henson School of Science at Salisbury University, recently presented their research on reducing grade inflation in undergraduate clinical nursing courses at the National Congress on the State of the Science of Nursing Research in Washington, D.C. In previous research they identified significant grade inflation in clinical nursing courses as compared with corresponding didactic courses. This research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Nursing Education. Over 600 researchers from around the world attended the conference, hosted by the American Academy of Nursing and the National Institute for Nursing Research. Seldomridge and Walsh’s presentation, “Addressing the Challenges of Clinical Grade Inflation Using Grading Rubrics,” described a pilot study conducted to develop reliable and valid rubrics used in determining grades in a leadership/management course.
