SSO Presents 'A Holiday with Charlotte Paulsen' Saturday, December 11

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s winter music festival, “Four Magical Nights,” culminates with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra’s concert “A Holiday with Charlotte Paulsen,” conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 11, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Paulsen, a mezzo-soprano who performed with the SSO in 2007, re-joins the symphony to perform highlights from Handel’s Messiah, as well as “O Holy Night” and Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.” Other seasonal works include selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Rimsky-Korsakov’s A Christmas Eve Suite.

Christmas Eve Suite is a beautiful work—all these Russian colors and sounds like church bells,” said Schoyen. “It ends very softly—such a great piece.”

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Paulsen has performed in France, Luxembourg, Mexico and Germany. She was awarded first place in the Wagnerian Voice division of the Liederkranz Foundation Awards and represented the United States at Zurich, Switzerland’s International Opera Studio.

“She’s just a stunning singer,” added Schoyen. “The orchestra had such a great time when she last performed here. We’re really looking forward to performing with her again.”

Her performance is part of the SSO’s silver anniversary season, celebrating 25 years of Town-Gown musical collaboration.
