SU's Gonzalez Discusses 'Black Activism Across Borders' April 4
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Aston Gonzalez of Salisbury University’s History Department is the next speaker in SU’s “Global Connections, Global Engagement” lecture series on Tuesday, April 4.
His presentation, “Black Activism Across Borders: the Global Dimensions of Solidarity,” is 7:30 p.m. in Conway Hall Room 153.
Gonzalez discusses how current campaigns to secure justice and equality for people of African descent parallel historical movements with similar aims. He explores this history, as well as new strategies to effect change.
His book-in-progress, Visualizing Equality: African American Champions of Race, Rights and Visual Culture, 1830-1880, charts the changing roles of African American activists who produced and used images in the fight for rights.
