SU's Wright to Perform 'Messiah Sing-In' at Lincoln Center
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. John Wesley Wright of Salisbury University’s Music, Theatre and Dance Department solos with the National Chorale during the group’s 50th-anniversary sing-in of Handel’s Messiah at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York.
Conducted by Everett McCorvey, artistic director of the National Chorale, the performance is 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 15.
A member of the acclaimed American Spiritual Ensemble, Wright was highlighted in the 2007 PBS documentary The Spirituals. The prize-winning tenor has performed nationally and internationally throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan for audiences including the family of former President John F. Kennedy. A previous winner of the American Traditions Competition, he is the coordinator of voice and opera programs at SU.
Founded in 1967, the Messiah sing-in has been a New York tradition for decades. The annual performance features four soloists as 3,000 audience members, including church and temple choir members, community choral organizations, and high school, college and alumni vocal groups, provide the chorus.
