Site Preparation to Begin for Education, Technology Center
SALISBURY, MD---Site preparation for Salisbury University’s new Teacher Education and Technology Center is expected to begin the last week of July with installation of a safety fence around the site perimeter and creation of a temporary construction entrance off Route 13.
The new building will be located on main campus near the Route 13 – West College Avenue intersection. The entrance, for construction traffic only, will require the temporary removal of two sections of campus wrought iron fencing along the highway. According to Greig Mitchell, 成人抖阴vice president of administration and finance, the fence removal and temporary paving will be implemented in a way to cause minimal disruption to Route 13 traffic. He does urge drivers to be aware, however, of increased tractor-trailer use of the campus access lane into the site once the construction phase begins.
Parking is also changing. The 625 parking spots being lost to TETC construction will be replaced by 645 spots at two Dresser Inc. parking lots across Route 13 near the East Campus Athletic Fields. A new 62-passenger loop bus will transport students between East and Main campuses.
With increased pedestrian and automobile traffic on East Campus, University Police headquarters is being relocated there to the Power Professional Building near the Athletic Fields. Blue light phones and other safety measures are being increased on East Campus including stepped-up patrols by University Police.
The TETC building is expected to open in summer 2008. It will become the new home of the Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies, as well as additional technology classrooms and more academic space for the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts.
