VPA Exhibit Features Works by Young Wicomico Artists
SALISBURY, MD---Some of the area’s most promising young artists display their works during the eighth annual Wicomico County Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Program Exhibit at Salisbury University.
The exhibit, February 18-March 4, is in the Atrium Gallery of the Guerrieri University Center. A reception is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18.
VPA students participated in the University Galleries’ Student Global Warming Poster Contest. Winners will be announced at the opening reception. The award-winning posters will be on display along with the Global Warming Portfolio exhibit March 11-April 16 in the Atrium Gallery.
Through the 21-year-old VPA program, students from Bennett, Parkside, Mardela and Wicomico high schools receive instruction in drawing, painting and several elective areas including photography, 3-D and graphic design, printmaking and sculpture. Students practice presenting themselves and their artwork in oral critiques and interview settings.
Art Supervisor Gary Beauchamp directs the program. Instructors Hyoi Choi, Mike Morris and Margaret Tossey teach the VPA classes.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, closed Thursdays, Fridays, weekends and holidays. Admission is free and the public is invited. VPA sponsors the program.
