SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Jazz Festival celebrates the sounds and inspiration of the genre Tuesday-Thursday, December 7-9.

Events include:

• Tuesday, December 7, 11 a.m., Fulton Hall Room 130 – “Mark Turner as a Model for Internalizing Upper-Structure Triads”: A lecture presented by Matt Michaud (Music, Theatre and Dance).
• Tuesday, December 7, 3:30 p.m., Conway Hall Room 152 – “Change the Message”: Jerry Tabor, professor of music, discusses the concepts behind his suite of jazz compositions, Change the Message. Musical materials with the same origins are transformed into four completely different sounding compositions.
• Tuesday, December 7, 5:30 p.m., Fulton Hall Room 130 – Jazz Workshop: Tabor and Michaud present a jazz guitar and improvisation workshop.
• Wednesday, December 8, 11 a.m., Fulton Hall Room 130 – Jazz Lecture: Tabor discusses and demonstrates new compositional approaches to jazz employed in his recent music, which premiere in the Ear Alliance Concert.
• Wednesday, December 8, 7:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Auditorium –Ear Alliance Concert : A concert premiering several of Jerry Tabor’s new original jazz works, including a four-movement suite, Change the Message, inspired by the emotional and mental reinterpretation required of adults and teens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Thursday, December 9, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Auditorium – Jazz Workshop: The ³ÉÈ˶¶ÒõJazz Ensemble holds a rehearsal and improvisation workshop with festival guest artists, open to the public. Artists work with the ensemble on jazz style and performance approaches and then conduct a hands-on improvisation workshop open to any instrumentalist. 
• Thursday, December 9, 7:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Auditorium – ³ÉÈ˶¶ÒõJazz Ensemble Concert: The ensemble, including guest artists Jeff Antoniuk on tenor sax, Amy Shook on bass, Frank Russo on drums, Savino Palumbo on piano and Michaud on guitar, presents its annual fall concert. The program includes “As if to Say…” an original composition by Tabor; Wayne Shorter’s “One by One”; and Tabor’s arrangement of Miles Davis’ “So What?”

Admission to all Jazz Festival events is free and the public is invited. Tickets are available through SU’s performing arts webpage at www.salisbury.edu/performingarts.

All attendees at Salisbury University indoor events are required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status. Attendees may be asked to leave an event for non-compliance.

All attendees must complete an online COVID-19 screening on the day of their visit, prior to coming to the ³ÉÈ˶¶Òõcampus.
