'Cycles: An Evening of Percussion' at 成人抖阴November 29
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Percussion Ensemble presents “Cycles: An Evening of Percussion” 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 29, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. The concert was originally scheduled for November 18 and was postponed.
Directed by Eric Shuster, the concert features students from SU’s percussion techniques class, conducted by Elijah Fallon.
Each piece explores the concept of cycles in one form or another. The two early works on the program, Amadeo Roldán’s “Rítmica” and John Cage’s “Trio,” take the raw materials of rhythm and spin them around. Despite approaching their pieces from opposite sides of the spectrum - one based in abstract durations, the other on rhythms of Cuban music - both composers worked at the frontiers and suggested what a world of pure, abstract percussion music could be.
From another perspective, Phillip Glass’ meditative “Opening” and Emmanuel Séjourné’s Ugandan mallet music-inspired “Akadinda Trio” demonstrate the cyclical nature of musical forms. Finally, at the heart of the program, Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s ambient “-aura-“ directs the performers to physically rotate through a large battery of instruments as they perform.
