Author Dr. Amina Gautier Concludes Spring Writers on the Shore Series May 3
SALISBURY, MD---Award-winning author Dr. Amina Gautier concludes this spring’s Writers on the Shore literary series at Salisbury University, reading from her works 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Perdue Hall’s Bennett Family Auditorium.
Gautier is the author of three award-winning short story collections. At-Risk (2011) received the Flannery O’Conner Award, First Horizons Award and Eric Hoffer Legacy Fiction Award. Now We Will Be Happy (2014) earned accolades including the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction, USA Best Book Award in African American Fiction, International Book Award and a Silver Ippy Award in Multicultural Fiction.
Her most recent collection, The Loss of All Lost Things (2016), won the Elixir Press Award in Fiction and the Chicago Public Library’s 21st Century Award.
In addition to her books, Gautier has published more than 85 short stories in literary journals including African American Review, Chattahoochee Review, Red Rock Review and Shenandoah. Her work also has been reprinted in anthologies including Women Writers of Color, Best African American Fiction and The Notre Dame Review: The First Ten Years, among others.
She has earned fellowships and scholarships from organizations including the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, American Antiquarian Society and Callaloo Writers’ Workshop. Academically, her honors have included a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and William Randolph Hearst Fellowship. A scholar of 19th-century American literature, she currently is on faculty in the University of Miami’s M.F.A. program.
