Enjoy Traditional Native American Cuisine November 17
Thursday November 4, 2004
SALISBURY, MD---Tradition calls for turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving, but is that really what the Native Americans brought to the table for the country’s earliest English settlers? As part of its Celebration of Native American Peoples Fall Cultural Series, Salisbury University presents a more traditional Native American meal 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, in the Bistro of the Commons. The menu includes venison Shepard’s pie, Cherokee chicken, Zuni green chili stew, Seminole corn stuffing, pumpkin soup, baked vegetables of the vines, baked acorn squash, yam cakes, baked pudding, Native American cake and rice pudding. Native American flutist Ron Warren provides entertainment. Paintings by famed Native American artist Eli Thomas, Wolf Clan member of the Onondaga nation, hang in the Bistro during the dinner. Thomas’ pieces are featured in the collections of such notables as singer Shania Twain and former president Jimmy Carter. Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs and University Dining Services, admission is $8.50 for adults, $4.95 for children.
