Jeminson Oversees Diversity Goals/Affirmative Action
SALISBURY, MD---Anthony Jemison (Class of ’87) has been appointed the Special Assistant for Diversity Initiatives/Affirmative Action Officer at Salisbury University.
A native of Mount Vernon, NY, Jemison received his juris doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law and recently served as the dean of academic and student affairs at Sojourner-Douglass College in Baltimore.
As special assistant for diversity initiatives, Jemison’s responsibilities include developing a comprehensive plan to enable 成人抖阴to move toward achievement of its diversity goals. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of departmental action plans to increase and retain historically under-represented faculty, staff and students; identifying sources of and writing grants for funding of campus diversity efforts; developing and coordinating education events that reflect and promote a diverse campus culture; and collaborating with University departments, local community and national organizations to further SU’s diversity goals.
“I am truly excited about this position,” said Jemison, “and I look forward to working with all segments of the campus community to achieve the President Janet Dudley-Eshbach’s goals.”
His responsibilities as affirmative action officer include advising campus groups on equitable, pro-active hiring practices and searches; monitoring equal opportunity and affirmative action policies and programs; and serving as liaison with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and civil rights compliance agencies.
“It is my intent next semester,” said Jemison, “to meet with all segments of the campus to discuss how collectively, we can move toward a campus that is inclusive, inviting and a model for academic excellence.”
