Musician Magdalen Hsu-Li Speaks, Performs at 成人抖阴October 4
SALISBURY, MD---Musician, artist and cultural activist Magdalen Hsu-Li speaks and performs songs from her latest album, Smashing the Ceiling, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center 7 p.m. Monday, October 4.
Hsu-Li’s music addresses her struggles as a bisexual Asian American living with Tourette’s syndrome. She was born as a minority in a small southern town and struggled with racism and her rare disability. Her musical performances are meant to raise awareness of sexual and cultural diversity. Smashing the Ceiling includes a mixture of pop, folk, country, eastern, classical and jazz influence.
She earned a B.F.A. in painting (cum laude) from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied jazz and classical voice, composition and piano at the Cornish College of Arts. She co-authored a Special Projects Grant for the King County Arts Commission and has been featured in the book Who’s Who of Asian Americans and Getting Bi by Robyn Ochs. She has one previous album, Fire.
