SSO Opens 25th Season With Annual Children's Concert Saturday, October 23

SALISBURY, MD---Move over, Aesop. Frederick has some fables of his own to share.

The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury University features selections from the book Frederick’s Fables by Leo Lionni during its annual Children’s Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 23, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, the concert opens the SSO’s 2010-2011 season, which marks its 25th year.

During the performance, Dr. Jacki Chooi-Theng Lew of SU’s Department of Music narrates two stories from the book: "Frederick" tells the tale of an artistic, creative mouse whose talents are thought of as useless—until his poetry helps others find joy during a dreary winter. "Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse" is a “grass isn’t always greener on the other side” parable that compares the life of a mouse to his toy counterpart.

Sponsored by Dr. James M. Crouse, D.D.S., P.A., the concert also features the Salisbury Youth Orchestra performing pieces including Star Trek Through the Years, and Leroy Anderson’s The Waltzing Cat and Bugler’s Holiday.

Available at the door only, tickets are $10 for adults and free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
