成人抖阴Hosts Tim Kennard River Run/Walk March 1

SALISBURY, MD---Comcast presents the sixth annual Tim Kennard 10-Mile River Run and 5K Run/Walk 8 a.m. Sunday, March 1. The start and finish are at Maggs Physical Activities Center at Salisbury University.

Race-related events begin Saturday, February 28, with a Family Sports and Fitness Exposition from noon-5 p.m. in Maggs Gym. Activities include bounce houses and inflatables for children, a climbing wall and vendors. Pre-registered entrants may pick up their New Balance Hi-Tech long-sleeve shirt and race number during the expo.

Guest speakers include author George Banker at 2 and 4 p.m., and Dr. Daniel Lane of Delmarva Chiropractic at 3 p.m. Banker, the operations manager of the Army Ten-Miler, the largest 10-mile road race in the United States, is the author of Marine Corps Marathon: A Running Tradition. He speaks on “What Moves You.” Lane speaks on “Injury Prevention.”

A pasta buffet follows the expo from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in SU’s Commons. Admission is $10.

The race is held in memory of local runner Tim Kennard, who died of renal cell cancer in 2004. This year’s top runners will be going after $1,400 in prize money. There is equal money for males and females in the 5K and 10-miler: $150 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third in each open division and $50 for the top overall runner in the master division.

One wish of Kennard was to have the proceeds of the race benefit children. Coastal Hospice of Salisbury is the major beneficiary. The funds are used for pediatric cases and programs for grieving children who have lost a sibling or a parent to cancer. Other beneficiaries this year are the Horizons Student Enrichment Program at The Salisbury School, animals in need, and Brooke Mulford, a local child recently diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma cancer.

“I had a great experience [last] year,” said Jaron Hawkins of Frostburg, MD, the winner and record holder of the 10-miler. “It was really nice to get to run on a flat course. I ended up running 52:15. I would love to run faster, and that is always my goal. I really just want to go to this race again.”
