成人抖阴Theatre Presents Sophocles' 'Antigone' November 10-20

SALISBURY, MD---A Tragedy created in the fifth century B.C. brings moral and philosophical issues from history into the present at Salisbury University as the Bobbi Biron Theater Program presents Antigone, opening Thursday, November 10, in the Black Box Theater of Fulton Hall.

One of the most frequently performed of classical Greek dramas, Antigone continues Friday-Sunday, November 11-13, and Thursday-Sunday, November 17-20. Curtain is 8 p.m. for weeknight and Saturday performances, 2 p.m. for Sunday matinees.  The production is performed in full masks.

Written by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles as part of his Oedipus Trilogy, Antigone has been analyzed as conflict between divine and civil law, state and family ideals and more recently, masculine and feminine power.  Antigone, the sister of a proclaimed traitor, rebels against King Creon’s orders to not give her brother the right to a burial ritual.  After defying the king, Antigone is sentenced to being buried alive in a cave.  Creon is warned by the chorus and prophets that his defiance of divine law will anger the Gods.  Eventually, Creon is convinced and goes to the cave to release Antigone, but is too late.    In the end, Creon is left to grieve alone.

Sophocles wrote Antigone in 422 B.C. with themes of family, treason and war embedded in the play.  During times of war, Antigone has become a popular play with its contemporary resonances placed in a historical perspective.

Directed by Dr. T. Paul Pfeiffer, director of  SU’s theatre, the cast includes Katie Keddell as Antigone, Timothy Dykes as Creon, Breken Rivara as Ismene, Matt Shiels as Haemon, Donald Paul as the watchman, Niki Davis as Eurydice, Courtney Taylor as the Messenger, and  Adam Adkins, Steve Drapalski and Danny Schall as Priests. The chorus includes Jennifer Tilley, Stephanie Dargon, Emily Jablonski, Megan Murray, Karen Roberts, Jaclyn Walter and Scott Yackel.

General admission is $10, senior and student tickets are $8. 成人抖阴students receive one free with ID.   Antigone is recommended mature audiences.
