SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is ready to Relay—online.
The annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Salisbury has launched an interactive Web site highlighting specific information about the event and cancer related topics. Relay For Life organizers are also using the site to accept team registrations and collect credit card donations.
This year’s Relay For Life of Salisbury University will be held at the Intramural Fields at Salisbury University on April 21-22 with opening ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. and closing ceremonies at 6 a.m.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the Society’s signature fundraising event. Teams of people camp out for 24 hours, walking laps on a track, socializing and participating in planned activities. Teams can be made up of family, friends, co-workers or community groups.
Relay For Life events around the nation have taken the fight against cancer online, and have seen increases in both participation and dollars raised. General cancer awareness is also a goal of Relay For Life sites, which connect people to lifesaving cancer information.
“Relay online is an easy way to spread the word about Relay For Life and ask for support. When I registered I received a personal webpage that I dedicated to telling my personal cancer story,” said Emily Jablonski, the top fundraiser with $2,385 so far with a month left to fundraise. Jablonski’s describes her personal cancer story on her Web site. She dedicated her page to “My Beloved Uncle Doug.” Go to www.acsevents.org/surelay and click on her name to view the Web page she created.
Once individuals form or join a team, they can share their personal reason for Relaying, and send out emails to friends and family asking for support of the cause through participation or a monetary donation. Top fundraising teams, individual fundraisers, and sponsors are highlighted on the front page of the Web site. Teams can even keep track of their total donations raised from the site, www.acsevents.org/SUrelay.
“Of the millions of ways that the Internet is used today, raising money and awareness to fight a disease that affects almost all of us is the best one that I’ve come across. We are trilled to be Relaying online in our community. This website will make a huge impact in the way we fight cancer,” said Kimberly Bartlett, a senior at 成人抖阴and the Relay For Life co-chair.
