SU's World Drum Ensemble Hosts Concert November 17
SALISBURY, MD---From Carlos Santana and Herbie Hancock to world music from Africa and beyond, Salisbury University’s World Drum Ensemble hosts its first full concert 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 17, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
Directed by Ted Nichols of the Music, Theatre and Dance Department, the group is joined by the 成人抖阴African Dancers, World Drum Experience and WBOC-TV “Travels with Charlie” host Charles Paparella as guest guitarist.
Other contemporary artists covered during the concert include Stevie Wonder, War, Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, Fela Kuti and Antônio Carlos Jobim.
World music selections for hand drums include “Sekhem Ba Amun” (“Everything is Rhythm”) and “Djole” by Mamady Keïta, featuring a call-and-response by the African Dancers. The latter is a traditional West African celebration song usually performed at weddings or after a good harvest.
