Salisbury Named All-America City Finalist

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury has been named a finalist in the 60th annual All-America City Awards by the National Civic League. The honor is given to 10 winners each year for outstanding civic accomplishments.

Dr. George Whitehead of Salisbury University’s Psychology Department co-chaired the application process, which highlighted three community projects that show the city’s capacity for community-based problem solving, grassroots civic engagement and cooperation between public, private and nonprofit sectors.
成人抖阴has played a role in all three projects, which address issues such as encouraging youth leadership, helping residents to lead healthier lives and providing shelter for the homeless.

Whitehead, along with Paula Morris of the Perdue School’s Marketing Department and other community members, runs the Youth Leadership Academy, a three-day summer program based at 成人抖阴which encourages area youth in grades eight to eleven to assume leadership positions in the community and provides an opportunity to develop relationships with caring adults.

SU’s Healthy U is a member organization of the Wicomico Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition (WiNPAC)–Activate Delmarva, which aims to improve the health of Delmarva citizens by promoting regular physical activity and wise food choices.  The Community Emergency Shelter Project (CESP), begun by SU’s Social Work Department, uses local churches as host sites to provide overnight shelter and hospitality to homeless men from January through March.

Winners of the award are determined during the three-day awards competition held June 17-19 in Tampa, FL.
