Seventeen Faculty Receive Grants 

SALISBURY, MD---Seventeen Salisbury University faculty members received grants in September from the Salisbury University Foundation Inc., including nine faculty from the Henson School of Science and Technology, five from the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, two from the Perdue School of Business and one from the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies. 

Drs. Homer Austin, Harel Barzilai, Donald Spickler and Lee May, all of the Henson School’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, were each awarded $750 to present at the American Mathematical Association (AMA) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS) joint annual meeting in San Diego, CA.  Other Department of Mathematics and Computer Science faculty to receive grants were Dr. Steven Hetzler, $550, to also present at the AMA and AMS joint conference; and Dr. Robert Tardiff,  $750, to fund a project on a real time, object oriented approach to stimulation of Queuing Models.

Drs. Kim Hunter and Eugene Williams of the Department of Biology in the Henson School each received grants.  Hunter received  $675 to fund student research in comparing genetic diversity of two species of plant.  Williams’ received  $725 to assist in undergraduate research training. 

Dr. Diane Davis of the Department of Health Sciences in the Henson School received  $750 toward her presentation at the Clinical Laboratory Educators national meeting.

Drs. Pamela Alreck and Robert Settle of the Perdue School’s Department of Management/Marketing received $750 each.  Alreck’s grant will be applied toward her presentation at the 13th annual Direct Marketing Educators Conference. Settle’s grant will be applied toward his presentation at the Academy of Business Administration 2001 Global Business Trends Conference.  

Dr. Gerald St. Martin of the Fulton School’s Department of Modern Languages received $750 toward his presentation at the 13th annual International Conference of the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

 Dr. Michael Lewis of the Department of History in the Fulton School received  $725 toward his presentation at the first international conference of the European Society for Environmental History and Policy at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. 

Dr. Jerry Tabor of the Fulton School’s Department of Music received $750 to fund the purchase of an updated computer and additional hardware for the creation and presentation of a new composition and workshop at international conferences.  Also from the Fulton School, Dr. James Hatley of the Department of Philosophy  received $525 toward his presentation at the annual conference of the Association for Jewish Studies, and Dr. Jody Morrison of the Communication and Theatre Arts Department received  $700 toward her presentation of three papers at the National Communication Associations annual convention in Atlanta, GA.   

Todd Astorino, from the Seidel School’s Department of Physical Education/Exercise Science, received $225 toward dissemination of research data at an upcoming meeting of scientific peers.
