Step Afrika! Performs at 成人抖阴Tuesday, February 16
SALISBURY, MD---The energy and pageantry of African dance takes center stage in Holloway Hall Auditorium as Step Afrika! comes to Salisbury University Tuesday, February 16.
Part of SU’s African American History Month celebration, the performance begins at 7 p.m.
Step Afrika! was the first professional company in the world dedicated to the African American tradition of stepping. Since its founding as an exchange program with the Soweto Dance Theatre of Johannesburg, South Africa, over two decades ago, the troupe has grown to become one of the top 10 African American dance companies in the U.S. and Washington, D.C.’s largest African American arts organization.
The Washington Post has raved about Step Afrika!’s colorful performances: “Their synchronization is airtight, their sense of rhythm is failsafe, and they’ve got a likable, impish sense of humor.” The Boston Globe called the troupe “phenomenally accomplished,” adding that its members “turned body language into body music. The kind that makes you want to get up and dance.”
Sponsored by the President’s, Provost’s, Cultural Affairs and Multicultural Student Services offices, Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, and Student Organization for Activity Planning, admission is free and the public is invited. The performance is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, awarded by the Maryland State Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
