WBOC: SUPD Earns $750,000 MHEC Campus Safety Grant

The Salisbury University Police Department (SUPD) soon will have more tools than ever to help keep the campus safe thanks to a $750,000 Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) Campus Safety Grant. The grant will allow for the purchase of additional security cameras on campus, as well as a portable camera, new software to will bring many of the systems currently used by police under one operation, a digital message board for use at large campus events, and a utility terrain vehicle. State officials are almost done redrawing of the boundaries of Worcester County’s most environmentally sensitive areas, meaning some landowners will see increased governmental protection overlaid onto their property. One of the largest Critical Area gains for Worcester County is at the border of Somerset County along Dividing Creek, according to Ryan Mello, project manager at Salisbury University’s Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative.

After securing the presidency in the 2024 general election, Donald Trump is set to  return to the oval office on January 20. Dr. Adam Hoffman, Salisbury University professor of political science, noted the economy was one factor that contributed to Trump's win. Incumbent Congressman Andy Harris won the race for U.S. representative from Maryland's 1st District for the eighth time. Hoffman believes Harris' notable staying power in Maryland is due to how District 1 is drawn, with an overwhelming number of Republicans.

For more than 40 years, Dr. Robert “Doc” Davis’ influence on the Salisbury University Men’s Rugby Club has been immeasurable. Now, his legacy will reach beyond the rugby world and impact University-wide clubs and intramural teams, thanks to the recent dedication of the Doc Davis Intramural Complex at SU. As head coach from 1993-2017, Davis led the Salisbury Sharks club team to four National Collegiate Rugby Division 2 national championships.

For the second year, the Baltimore-based Daily Record and BridgeTower Media have announced 成人抖阴President Carolyn Ringer Lepre as one of the members of its Higher Education Power List. Selected by the newspaper’s editorial team, with input from readers, the list celebrates the state’s most influential college and university presidents, policy makers and other senior administrators for their oversight of “some of the finest institutions of higher education in the nation,” according to the publication.
